If you are wondering why people are fleeing South American countries for somewhere safer, the first place to look is right here in the USA. Turns out, we're pretty big on messing around with other governments for our own benefit, without too much worry about how it is going to effect the people who actually live in that country. Warning: this is not a comprehensive history - it is much simplified and in the JTW tradition, probably a little muddled.
